Looking back at the entrance arch; the side of the church to the left, the museum, that once housed the monks, on the right.

The stairway of basil leading to a cruicifx. Pots of basil and other herbs were everywhere and the fragrance was wonderful. I noticed basil plants were also in, or near, many of the restaurants on the island and was told that they help keep flies at bay.

Birdsong also filled the courtyard from several caged birds, even the screec hing of beautiful peacocks as they wandered in from the garden to peer at us through the thick mesh. Come to look at the human specimens I wonder?

These photos don't do the birds' feathers justice, sadly.
As they stolled, as aloof as haughty courtiers through shafts of sunlight they shimmered and gleamed iridescent blues and greens that stopped you in your tracks.

In this photo you can glimpse the opening to their garden.
