It almost rained today.

A cool breeze rustled dry leaves and whispered through sear grasses and stirred the smoldering heat. Eyes turned skyward to watch grey clouds swirl and mass together, grow darker in a sun streaked sky. "Rain!" the breeze promised and in the distance thunder rumbled, "Yes!" in reply. And the dry earth waited. But for us it was a lie. The grey clouds tumbled and the thunder rumbled and rolled but kept on rolling and rolled on by.

The sun came out and the air stood still. Bees droned and butterflies flittered and danced as I wiped the sweat from my eye. The ground stayed hot and the plants stayed dry.
It almost rained today, but sadly it passed us by.
