Sunlight & Shadow

I took a walk along the river today, the air was fresh, almost spring-like and the sun was shining gleaming on the water and casting long, liquid shadows. Swans, ducks and geese flapped and called noisily or drifted slowly, majestically, as silent as cumulus clouds upon a silvered river.

It felt peaceful, "far from the madding crowd", as Hardy would say and yet three-four hundred yards away the traffic streamed over the bridge into the bustle of the town.

Flocks of Canadian geese feeding on the grass along the river bank would occasionally look up with that huhuh-huhuh chatter of theirs and give you the once over, "Are you going to feed us?" before returning to their natural diet.

The avenue of graceful willows that hung over the path touching, tapping you on your head and shoulders as you walk beneath them, their long tendrils still green in the November sun. Autumn seems a little late in some parts especially when in the town centre preparations are already underway for Christmas with several decorations suspended from the vaulted ceilings. What a topsy turvy mix of seasons. Is it Autumn being a little hesitant or are we just bringing Christmas ever earlier?

I love those little moments. They soothe the soul. Nice. *whispering* Hello Sandy. I'm whispering so that I won't disrupt the tranquility. :)

Love the pics with the narrative!

Hey S,

Nice pics and words. Loved the flickering sunlight, the ducks, the willow and even the road bridge muscling in behind. Looks like it was a good light for photos.

How beautiful... a little of both I think, fall hesitant to leave and town workers in hurry to decorate.

I'm so envious of your walks! Is that a little swan butt I see in the first photo, lower right?

Right Kat Fall can be late, as long as we don't get Florida weather at Christmas I'll be happy, that must be confusing.
Hmmm could be Janet there were a lot of swans and white geese on the river.
That could get a little tricky tc. Remember, look left, then right then left again. :p

You're welcome mate and thanks! :-) Sssh Dan *whisper* I'm from the north too, well born and bred in Durham.

I do like Hardy moi he has such a richness of languge that we seem to have forgotten. Christmas in sunny Florida, yes, I would find that confusing too. :p :-)

Rutland Waters Dave, that's a beautiful place to cycle. Wish you fair weather in May.

Sandy,

You ol' ersatz mackem you. I'm Easington Colliery born and bred. Perhaps we've been drawn together by some whippet spirit thing. Hmmmm whippets. An animal that brought new meaning to the phrase, thin dog.

Hi Sandy,
In Greek Myths & Plays - it is the daughters would be turned into stars

Only natural that stars should turn back into daughters. What captivates our mind & imagination, can and doth also captivate our Spirit & Soul ...
Be it a cloud in the sky
Be it a ripple in the pond
be it love of the Most High
be it love of the great beyond
